Méribel lies in the Les Allues Valley at the heart of Les 3 Vallées (The 3 Valleys), the world’s biggest ski area and comprises four main centres: Les Allues at 1100m; Méribel Village at 1400m; Méribel starting at 1450m; and Méribel-Mottarét starting at 1700m. Each centre has it’s own unique charm. Together they form one of the most popular destinations for British skiers (the resort was, in fact, founded by a British Colonel, Peter Lindsay, in 1938).
The resort’s perennial popularity is due not only to its extensive skiing, but also to the attractive chalet-style architecture. Unlike many purpose-built ski resort Méribel has retained its Alpine charm and the four main centres consists entirely of chalet-style wood and stone buildings.
Méribel is the largest of the villages and is home to the main shopping area, the Olympic centre with its gym, ice-rink, bowling alley, swimming pool, climbing wall, and the greatest selection of brilliant après-ski bars for excellent night life and wonderful restaurants serving some of the best traditional Savoyard food in the area. The bi-weekly street market adds charm and sense of tradition to the town centre.
Méribel and it’s lift system is easily accessible from Apartment La Voûte using the free local bus service, with the closest télécabine, Olympe 3 at Le Raffort only two minutes ride and the centre of Méribel less than 10 minutes ride. It is even possible to ski back to the front door of Apartment La Voûte from the top of the Plan De L’Homme chair lift down the Villages blue run! Click here to see the bus journey to Méribel Village.
